Nano Filtration

Nanofiltration, in concept and operation, is much the same as reverse osmosis. The key difference is the degree of removal of monovalent ions such as chlorides. Reverse osmosis removes the monovalent ions at 98-99% level at 200 psi. Nanofiltration membranes removal of monovalent ions varies between 50% to 90% depending on the material and manufacture of the membrane. For this reason, there is a variety of Nanofiltration membranes available. Each type is particularly suited to a certain application and may not be acceptable to a different application. Softners

The water will be called as "hard" if it contains calcium or magnesium salts dissolved in it. A water softener reduces the dissolved calcium and magnesium salts in hard water. These "hardness ions" cause undesired effects like hindering the ability of detergents to lather and forming a precipitate and forming scales to the surfaces of pipes and heat exchanger surfaces
Ion-exchange materials contain sodium ions (Na+) that are electrostatically bound and that readily are replaced by hardness ions such as Ca2+ and Mg2+. Ion exchange resins are organic polymers containing anionic functional groups to which the Na+ is bound. The water to be treated passes through a bed of the resin. The resins initially contain univalent sodium ions, which exchange with divalent calcium and magnesium ions in the water. As the water passes through the resin column, the hardness ions replace the sodium ions which are released into the water. The "harder" the water, the more sodium ions are released from the resin and into the water. As these resins become loaded with undesirable cations they gradually lose their effectiveness and must be regenerated.

Reverse Osmosis System

The availability of potable drinking water devoid of dissolved and un dissolved salts, bacterial contamination, viral contamination and fungal contamination is a challenge for human beings across the globe.
