PTSA is comparable in strength to mineral acids such as Sulphuric acid, but are especially suitable for organic reactions where an inorganic, mineral acid could cause charring, oxidation, or an unwanted chemical reaction. It is most useful as acid-catalyst reaction such as esterification condensation acetylation polymerization alkylation’s hydrolysis dehydration. It is also used as curing agent for many thermosetting resin system such as varnishes minophenolicfoundry resinacrylic resinsresoles epoxies amino-Plastics and furniture lacquers.

It is a versatile hydrotrope which can function as a solubilizer, coupling agent and processing agent in a wide range of detergent manufacture and many other industrial processes. Dissolved in water could increase the solubility for low-soluble organice matter. Lower down the cloud point of the aqueous formulated products and reduce viscosity of the aqueous products

Preservative for protection against bacterial spoilage in aqueous systems, paintscoatings, resin emulsions, pigment slurries, adhesives, and metalworking fluids.
