Transparentsilicone tubing offers the transparency and having one of the least extractables. Viton tubing offers excellent chemical resistance to the majority of the chemicals due to fluorine atoms in the chemical chain. This allows it to be used with most of the corrosive liquids where other tubings would fail. Westoprene tubing is used for special applications where long life and resistance to certain types of chemicals is required.

Peroxide based cure system

Advantages:

• Peroxide based cure systems were traditional types of cure systems.
• Peroxide based silicone curing is cheaper
• Imparts better physical properties than platinum based silicone

Disadvantages:

• Product post curing is necesary to remove unreacted peroxide traces from the surface.
• Extractables may have peroxide traces.

Platinum Based Cure system

This is anadvanced curing system.Platinum complex is the cure initiator and accelerator

Advantages:

• Silicone tubing can be manufacturerd with high transparency
• These kind of tubing haveno contaminationdue to substrate.
• Silicone tubing has flame reatardant properties, which makes is excellent for anesthetic applications
• FDA compliantand recommended for food and medical usage.

Disadvantages:

• Comparatively costlierthan peroxide based silicone tubing
• Physical properties are not as good as peroxide based tubing

Fluoroelastomer also commonly known as FKM is a nothing but fluorinated polymer. Due tohigh electronegativity of Fluorine, it is difficult to displace fluorine atoms from the polymeric chains. Therefore FKM elastomer has higher chemical resistance and temperature resistance.Fluorine forms very strong bondwith the polymer chains which makes FKM elastomer very stable andchemically inertto a many inorganic and organic solvents, oils, petroleum products etc. Due tosuperiority to most of the elastomers, Viton tubing is very widely used in harsh environment consisting of corrosive chemicals and higher temperatures.
