Frit is a ceramic composition formed by fusing inorganic materials into a glass by heating them in smelters and quenching them in water. Further benefits of fritting include the elimination of chemically combined water from the ingredients; reduction of the melting point of the fritted materials versus that of the individual components; and simplification of the glaze or bond system by reducing the number of materials in the formula.
