Aluminium Products

Aluminium is the world’s most abundant metal and is the third most common element, comprising 8% of the earth’s crust. The versatility of aluminium makes it the most widely used metal after steel. Although aluminium compounds have been used for thousands of years, aluminium metal was first produced around 170 years ago. Pure aluminium is soft, ductile, corrosion resistant and has a high electrical conductivity. It is widely used for foil and conductor cables, but alloying with other elements is necessary to provide the higher strengths needed for other applications. Aluminium is one of the lightest engineering metals, having a strength to weight ratio superior to steel. By utilizing various combinations of its advantageous properties such as strength, lightness, corrosion resistance, recyclability and formability, aluminium is being employed in an ever-increasing number of applications. This array of products ranges from structural materials through to thin packaging foils. Further strengthening is possible by means which classify the alloys roughly into two categories, non-heat-treatable and heat treatable.

Non-Heat-Treatable AlloysThe strength of alloys in this group depends upon the hardening effect of elements such as manganese, silicon, iron and magnesium. Since these alloys are work-hardenable, strength levels are controlled by various degrees of cold working, denoted by the ‘H’ series of tempers. Alloys containing appreciable amounts of magnesium when supplied in strain-hardened tempers are usually given a final elevated-temperature treatment called stabilizing to ensure stability of properties

Heat-Treatable AlloysThe strength of alloy in this group is enhanced by the addition of alloying elements such as copper, magnesium, zinc and silicon. Since these elements show increasing solid solubility in aluminium with increasing temperature, thermal treatments impart pronounced strengthening. The first step, called solution heat treatment, is an elevated - temperature process designed to put the soluble element or elements in solid solution. This is followed by rapid quenching, usually in water, which momentarily ‘freezes’ the structure and for a short time renders the alloy very workable. It is at this stage that some fabricators retain this more workable structure by storing the alloys at below freezing temperatures until they are ready to form them. At room or elevated temperature, the alloys are not stable after quenching, and precipitation of the constituents from the super – saturated solution begins. After a period of several days at room temperature termed ageing or room temperature precipitation, the alloy is considerably stronger. Many alloys approach a stable condition at room temperature, but some alloys, particularly those containing magnesium and silicon or magnesium and zinc, continue to age – harden for long periods of time at room temperature. By heating for a controlled time at slightly elevated temperatures, further strengthening is possible and properties are stabilized. This process is called artificial ageing or precipitation hardening. By the proper combination of solution heat treatment, quenching, cold working and artificial ageing, the highest strengths are obtained.

Nickel Sheets

Commercially pure or low-alloy nickel has characteristics that are useful in several fields, notably chemical processing and electronics. Nickel is highly resistant to various reducing chemicals and is unexcelled in resistance to caustic alkalies. Compared with nickel alloys, commercially pure nickel has high electrical and thermal conductivity. It also has a high Curie temperature and good magnetostrictive properties. Annealed nickel has a low hardness and good ductility and malleability. Those attributes, combined with good weldability, make the metal highly fabricable. Nickel has a relatively low work-hardening rate, but it can be cold worked to moderately high strength levels while maintaining ductility. Included in this publication are Nickel 200 and Nickel 201

Nickel 200 (UNS N02200) is commercially pure (99.6%) wrought nickel. It has good mechanical properties and excellent resistance to many corrosive environments. Other useful features of the alloy are its magnetic and magnetostrictive properties, high thermal and electrical conductivities, low gas content and low vapor pressure. The corrosion resistance of Nickel 200 makes it particularly useful for maintaining product purity in the handling of foods, synthetic fibers, and caustic alkalies and also in structural applications where resistance to corrosion is a prime consideration. Other applications include chemical shipping drums, electrical and electronic parts, aerospace and missile components.

Nickel 201 (UNS N02201) is the low-carbon version of Nickel 200. Typical applications are caustic evaporators, combustion boats, plater bars, and electronic components. Nickel 201, because of its low base hardness and lower work-hardening rate, is particularly suited for spinning and cold forming. It is preferred to Nickel 200 for applications involving exposure to temperatures above 600°F (315°C)

Stainless Steel Bar (15-5 PH)

15-5 PH is a martensitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel that provides high strength, good corrosion resistance, good mechanical properties at temperatures up to 600°F (316°C) and good toughness in both the longitudinal and transverse directions in both base metal and welds. Short-time, low-temperature heat treatments minimize distortion and scaling. 15-5 PH is the ferrite-free version of 17-4 PH Stainless Steel. Both alloys are widely used in the aerospace, chemical, petrochemical, food processing, paper and general metalworking industries
15-5 PH is available in various forms such as Bars, Sheets, Plates, Flats, Forgings, Circle etc
15-5 PH Stainless Steel can be heat treated at a variety of temperatures to develop a wide range of properties. Eight standard heat treatments have been developed - H 900, H 925, H 1025, H 1075, H 1100, H 1150, H 1150+1150, H 1150-M,

Invar Alloys Products

INVAR (36) - Extremely low thermal expansion at room temperatures realizing dimensional stability for all kinds of applications. Invar, a magnificent alloy discovered in 1896, is the oldest of all nickel and cobalt based alloys. The main property is the extremely low thermal expansion at room temperatures realizing dimensional stability for all kinds of applications. INVAR is melted generally under vacuum.

INVAR (42) - Has the lowest CTE between 20-300 degrees °C.Also known as N 42, created in 1899 as a variation on INVAR 36 with around 41-42 % of nickel, whereas INVAR 42 has the lowest CTE between 20-300 °C. INVAR 42 is melted under vacuum in general. Applicable norm is ASTM F30.KOVAR - The lowest CTE Between 20-500 ºC and equal to glass and ceramics. Created in 1930. This Ni-Co alloy has two typical applications. Between 20-500 °C, KOVAR has the lowest CTE of all alloys or metals. But its CTE is also equal to glass and ceramics. Making it an ideal metal to seal glass metal or ceramic-metal. Many glass sealing systems are built up with KOVAR.

KOVAR is melted under vacuum. Applicable norm is ASTM F15. Up to larger sizes than usual, the KOVAR has no phase transformation at -196 °C.

The Chemical Composition Of This Alloy Is:

KOVAR
Nickel (Ni)  29%
Cobalt (Co) 17.00%
Iron (Fe)  Balanced

The Expansion Properties Are:

KOVAR
30-400°C [x10-6/K]  4,6 - 5,2
