Process Description
The process involves
a)The striking of an ARC between the metal work piece and the carbon electrode.
b)Melting by the ARC
c)Removal if the molten metal with compressed air jets, following parallel to the electrode from the torch.
The Gauging Carbon Electrode used in this gouging process is made up of special mixture of carbon and graphite, The electrode is usually Copper jacketed to increase its life, provide a uniform grove, and increase the current carrying capacity and radiated heat.
What is ARC Air Process
Air arc gouging process is essentially progressive melting of metal by using Carbon electrode and simultaneously blowing away the melted metal by high velocity jets of compressed air directed at the point of the arc.
The Arc Electrode used in this Gouging process should be made up of a special mixture of carbon and graphite. The electrode is usually Copper Jacked to increase its life, provide a uniform groove, increase the current carrying capacity and reduce radiated heat.
Principles of operation
By passing electricity through the Gouging Carbon electrodes, intensive heat is produced, which melts the metal with an electric arc, whether it is ferrous or non-ferrous.
This is high speed metal removal process, which produces high quality cuts at minimum cost. The gouging process can be utilized for high quality cutting, grooving, gouging or beveling any metal. The gouging process results in clean and controllable results and obviates the need for any further surface cleaning as the melting and cleaning is done simultaneously.
