Mastic Asphalt Tester

Mastic Asphalt Tester (AIM 592)

This machine is used to determine the hardness of asphalt material the design features direct vertical loading with loading weight that rest on thrust bearings therefore load is applied to the specimen without transmitting shock to the loading column. At the end of the loading period the depth of penetration of the pin can be read form the dial gauge to an accuracy of 0.01mm. The thermostatically controlled heater unit has a built in impeller which circulates the water to maintain an even temperature throughout

Wheel Rut Tester

Wheel Rut Tester (AIM 579)

The wheel rut tester is used to determine the resistance ability to wheel tracking at high temperature of bituminous combined material.The machine has two main parts i.e. testing machine and constant temperature cabinet, temperature is controlled by PID controller. This consists essentially of a loaded wheel, which bears on a sample held on a moving table. The table reciprocates with simple harmonic motion. The wheel is fitted with a solid rubber tyre and moves at a speed of 42+/- 1 rpm and the sample table is fitted with a locking clamp for 230 +/- 10 mm. The machine is also provided a moving beam and balance weight to adjust the tyre position on and off the specimen at the beginning and at the end of the test. The pressure between table and specimen is ensured at 0.7 Mpa with the leverage effect of moving beam. Furthermore two temperature sensors are provided : one to be placed inside the specimen and the other in the controlled temperature cabinet. The test is automatically controlled by a data acquisition and processing system with large graphic display to monitor in real time number of cycles, rut depth and temperature and time displacement graph.

Permeability Testers Three Cell

Permeability Testers, three cell and six cell models (AIM 437, AIM 438) Ref Stds : IS 1727/2645.

Permeability Testers are supplied with 3/6 cells to conduct permeabilitytest on pozzolana cement mortar and cement mortar with or without the addition of integral water proofing compound is carried out using a brass cell of 100 mm dia and 50 mm high. Each cell with collar is clamped in-between a base plate and a top plate with the help of tension rods and nuts. The cell assembly is mounted on the stand. The top plate is provided with an inlet and air release vent and the base plate is provided with an outlet.

The Natural Frequency Tester is used to identify the active frequencies of any structure. This equipment is particularly useful for structural testing of bridges and other structures in earthquake affected regions. Using this equipment, a building's or structure's design can be simulated depending on the natural frequencies found at the design stage, in cases where the natural frequencies coincide with potential seismic frequencies.This equipment allows all multiple frequencies to be used to excite a model structure and facilities the online measurement and storage of all results of the impact of the structure under such dynamic seismic like loading. The equipment consists of a Dynamic Signal Source, Power Amplifier, Exciter & Sensors along with a Data Acquisition System.The Dynamic Signal Source can generate variable frequencies with variable amplitudes. The selection of different signal types such as square, sinusoidal, triangular and random, etc. is also possible. The Power Amplifier provides sufficient energy to drive the exciter which will feed the required energy to the structure through a plunger and impact sensor.The Dynamic Data Acquisition System has a resolution of 16 bits with a very high sampling rate to sense the required parameters such as impact force and accelerometers to sense the effect of impact on the structure.

Determination of soil shear strength is essential for designing the foundation of structures, soil and soil retaining structures, soil slopes, etc., Shear strength of soil depends on various factors and insitu soil conditions. Therefore, when laboratory tests in soil are performed to evaluate shear strength of soil, the insitu soil conditions and other factors should be simulated for obtaining meaningful results. For example, the Unconsolidated Undrained test on soil will yield the undrained strength, which can be used for finding the immediate stability of an excavation, whereas a consolidated undrained test with measurement of pore pressure can be used to evaluate the effective strength parameters of soil for designing the long term stability of an earth fill dam. It is well known that the engineering behaviour of soil depends on the effective stress and not the total stress. The effective stress can be calculated by measuring the total stress and substracting the pore water pressure from it. To cater to the needs of shear strength determination of soil, a range of equipment is offered, as listed in this section.

It is for determining the aggregate impact value and has been designed in accordance with IS:2386 (Part 4), IS:9377. The sturdy construction consists of a base and support columns to form a rigid frame work around the quick release trigger mechanism to ensure an effective free fall of the hammer during test. The free fall can be adjusted through 380 5 mm. The hammer is provided with a locking arrangement.
