Internal Circlip is the most common form circlips which is fitted axially for bores with grooves. This type of circlip has a large free diameter and gap width so that it fits more tightly into the groove and provides a more uniform thrust load capacity.
External Circlip is the most common form of circlips which is fitted axially for shafts with grooves. It is often used in assemblies subjected to strong centrifugal forces and is also secure against high rotational speeds.
Spring dowel pins are accurately made to diameter greater than the drilled hole into which is it pressed. When it is fitted over a pin the elasticity of the material exerts continuous radial force over its full length.
