Light Dimmer DIY Kits (Not Soldered)

A light dimmer works by essentially chopping parts out of the AC voltage. As the AC supply voltage increases at the beginning of the cycle, capacitor, C is charged through the series combination of the fixed resistor, R1 and the potentiometer, VR1 and the voltage across its plates increases.

Once the triac has been fired into conduction, it is maintained in its ON state by the load current flowing through it, while the voltage across the resistorcapacitor combination is limited by the ON voltage of the triac and is maintained until the end of the present half-cycle of the AC supply.

At the end of the half cycle the supply voltage falls to zero, reducing the current through the triac below its holding current, IHturning it OFF and the diac stops conduction. The supply voltage then enters its next half-cycle, the capacitor voltage again begins to rise (this time in the opposite direction) and the cycle of firing the triac repeats over again.

16x2 LCD Display

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen is an electronic display module and find a wide range of applications. A 16x2 LCD display is very basic module and is very commonly used in various devices and circuits.

A16x2 LCDmeans it can display 16 characters per line and there are 2 such lines. In this LCD each character is displayed in 5x7 pixel matrix. This LCD has two registers, namely, Command and Data.The command register stores the command instructions given to the LCD. A command is an instruction given to LCD to do a predefined task like initializing it, clearing its screen, setting the cursor position, controlling display etc. The data register stores the data to be displayed on the LCD. Transformer DIY Kits

5V Power Supply for Transformer DIY Kits (Not Soldered)

A good regulated AC to DC power supply circuit is essential for any electronic products. Microcontrollers require a 5V DC supply, so the AC 230V needs to be converted into 5V DC using the step-down converter in their power supply circuit.

Circuit consists of 4 parts: Step down transformer, bridge rectifier, capacitor filter and voltage regulator IC. The transformer step downs the high voltage AC to a low voltage AC. W10 (Bridge rectifier) internally consists of four diodes which are connected in the form a bridge. We know that the diode is an uncontrolled rectifier which will conduct only forward bias and will not conduct during the reverse bias. Output of the W10 will get 15v DC. 15V DC can be regulated into 5V DC using 7805 IC, but before this, it is required to obtain pure DC power. The output of the W10 bridge rectifier is a DC consisting of ripples also called as pulsating DC. This pulsating DC can be filtered using a capacitor filter for removing the ripples. The Capacitor input increases from zero to a peak value and, while the supply voltage decreases from peak value to zero, capacitor starts discharging. This charging and discharging of the capacitor will make the pulsating DC into pure DC.

7805 is a voltage regulator integrated circuit. It is a member of 78xx series of fixed linear voltage regulator ICs. Which restricts the voltage output to 5V. It comes with provision to add heatsink.The maximum value for input to the voltage regulator is 35V. It can provide a constant steady voltage flow of 5V for higher voltage input till the threshold limit of 35V. Again Filter circuit is added to eliminate remaining ripples. When Output 5v is came, LED will glow. This circuit can connect any of power supply sections if regulated 5v is needed.

Water Level Indicator DIY Kits

A water level indicator is used to indicate the level of water in an over head tank. This keeps the user informed about the water level at all times and avoids the situation of water running overflow. Four LEDs to indicate the 4 different water level positions through BC547.

S1, S2, S3 and S4 are the four probes for different positions of water tank. When any of the probes touches the water circuit will be closed and voltage coming to the base of the transistor(the base current Ib get increased by current passing through the water), LED goes ON. So easily we can understand water in the tank is in corresponding water position. 100k Resistor is used to pull-down the base of the transistor(Not to produce false result). If direct Vcc voltage coming into the base of the transistor, It may affect the transistor(So 1k is provided series to the base to limit the base current to micro amperes ).
