Superset-117 Anti Settling Agent

  • Composition Balanced mixture of anionic nonionic compounds.
  • Appearance Yellow Liquid
  • Solubility Soluble in water
  • pH of Water Solution 7.5 to 8
  • Stabilities Stable in pH range of 2 to 12, Stable in hard water.

The use of Superset is particularly recommended for heavy pigments such as Red Lead, Barytes Iron oxides, etc., as thse pigments quickly form a hard deposit which often cannot be brought back into suspension.Beacause of its high surface activity, Superset keeps these pigments in suspension. If slight sedimentation takes place sediments can be stirred back into suspension without any difficulty.

Method of Application:

Due to its liquid form, the incorporation of Superset is very easy. Actually Superset can be added to the paints at any stage of manufacturing. Addition of Superset at the time of grinding is more effective.

Quantities to be used:

  • The quantities required to depend on the nature of the pigments and on the type of binders used. It is well known that lightweight pigments require less of the anti-settling agent than heavy pigments.
  • In the same way, if binders are used, which, due to the size of their molecules, hinder the sedimentation of pigments to a great extent, less Superset is required. The right quantity can only be determined by experiments.
  • Overdosage should be avoided. Overdosage might cause some side effects like disturbance in flow or delay in drying etc.
  • We recommend an initial quantity of about 0.1% to 0.25% and if the required effect is not obtained, the quantity should be gradually increased.
  • For Red Lead in linseed oil 0.7-1.0% of Superset-P is recommended.
  • Iron Oxide Paints: Require an average of 0.5% of superset while certain grades require upto 1%.
  • Due to the great variety of compounds used in modern coatings, it is practically impossible to give exact figures or to predict the behavior of Superset in every formulation after a few tests, the experts will find without difficulty the exact percentage necessary for obtaining the best results.
  • Another important advantage of Superset is its anti skinning nature.
  • Superset-P is very stable if kept in closed containers. If exposed to freezing temperatures slight sedimentation may take place. Storage at room temperature will re-dissolve the sedimentation.
