Monitor extreme cold environments
Dry ice shipments present a unique set of challenges especially when maintaining temperature control is a critical factor. The TrekView Dry Ice delivers a solution that will allow you to know if temperatures have remained in an acceptable range.
The durable probe allows you to monitor the temperature inside a container while the TrekView remains outside of the packaging. A thin ribbon cable allows the container to remain tightly closed without risk of compromising package quality but temperature data can be collected at any point int he cold chain either through USB or wireless interface.

Controlled room temperature (CRT) shipping is poised to become the fastest-growing area of pharmaceutical shipping, Controlled room temperature (CRT) shipping is poised to become the fastest-growing area of pharmaceutical shipping, as drug developers and regulatory agencies throughout the world pay more attention to temperatures during shipping and storage.
Much of that attention is directly attributed to biologics that, analysts say, will have a compounded annual growth rate of 6.5 percent until 2015. Thats 1.5 percent higher than that of traditional pharmaceuticals. To accommodate these typically temperature-sensitive products, pharmaceutical companies are re-engineering their distribution systems.
In India in 2010, vaccines exposed to heat were linked to the deaths of 128 children. More recently, an October 2012 report from Indias Parliamentary Standing Committee on Healthfound that chocolate and soft drinks had priority over expensive, temperature-sensitive medications (including the cancer-fighter Herceptin) when it came to space in pharmacy refrigerators.
But temperature variations arent just an Indian problem. WhenCold Chain IQsurveyed pharmaceutical executives, it found that at least 10 percent of respondents recorded temperature deviations in more than 15 percent of their temperature-sensitive shipments. Twenty percent didnt know whether excursions had occurred.
Clearly, pharmaceutical manufacturers need a system that tracks product temperatures through the distribution chain. On that point, regulatory agencies worldwide agree. A few years ago they began issuing or amending Good Distribution Practices to include guidelines for documenting temperatures. The details vary by country, but the guidelines generally require verifiable, tamper-proof evidence that pharmaceutical products have been maintained at proper temperatures.
A robust monitoring system can meet those requirements. Simple go/no go indicators will meet many nations requirements. Data loggers may be required for others, providing detailed documentation of any temperature excursions, their duration and, where they occurred. The longer the distribution chain, the greater the chance that something will go wrong. The US medical device market (estimated at$106 billionin 2011) is the worlds largest, but imports comprise nearly one third of that and, in 2011, grew at 8.9 percent. While that market will continue to grow, the next big opportunity will be in the BRIC nations and South Africa, which have large unmet needs and lengthy distribution chains.
The longer the distribution chain, the greater the chance that something will go wrong. Even well-packaged cargo experiences vibrations from variations in pavement, pitching and yawing during marine transportation, drops by cranes, or contact with docks or other cargo.
When the cargo is sensitive medical equipment (like MRI or CT scanners), damage may not be detected immediately. The ramifications, however, can be far-reaching. Even seemingly minor damage can impair functionality and necessitate recalibration or repair, resulting in lost opportunities and delayed patient service for the hospital and repair costs and reputational damage for the manufacturer. In the US, for example, the total costs of a damaged MRI coil are estimated at $3, 000 per day. For other devices, such as implantable insulin pumps, the vibrations can cause friction that may abrade sterile packaging, putting patients at risk unless it is discovered.

Features:n the cold chain, an unacceptable temperature event can result in high product losses. Delays in the availability of replacement product can be damaging to a companys reputation in the marketplace. Monitoring programs that communicate to handlers the sensitivity of a shipment can help prevent unacceptable events from ever happening. ShockWatch temperature indicators can play a role in these programs by:
ShockWatch temperature indicators are simple , single use solutions for monitoring your cold chain. These devices provide a highly visible, easy to read indication of when your product has been exposed to temperatures that are too hot or too cold during transport or storage. There are six different types of indicators.
