Plain cement concrete (PCC) is used to provide rigid impervious bed to RCC in foundation where the earth is soft and yielding. PCC can be used over brick flat soling or without brick flat soling. Plain cement concrete can also called only "cement concrete (CC)" or "binding concrete". The thickness of PCC is normally 50mm over Brick Flat Soling (BFS). If we don’t use BFS below PCC then the thickness should be 75­mm. when the PCC is used in car park area then the thickness should be 75mm over BFS.

RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) is the combination of using steel and concrete instead of using only concrete to offset some limitations. Concrete is weak in tensile stress with compared to its compressive stress. To offset this limitation, steel reinforcement is used in the concrete at the place where the section is subjected to tensile stress. Steel is very strong in tensile stress. The reinforcement is usually round in shape with approximate surface deformation is placed in the form in advance of the concrete. When the reinforcement is surrounded by the hardened concrete mass, it form an integral part of the member. The resultant combination of two materials are known as reinforced concrete. In this case the cross-sectional area of the beam or other flexural member is greatly reduced.

Dry Lean Concrete (DLC) is an important part of modern rigid pavement. It is a plain concrete with a large ratio of aggregate to cement than conventional concrete and generally used as a base/sub base of rigid pavement. function of dry lean concrete is to provide firm base to support traffic over pqc pavement.there should be no bond between pqc and dry lean concrete.

The material, techniques / System for repair the PQC cracks should be such which will have durability of minimum 10 – 15 years or as per the designed life of pavement. Otherwise water may penetrate from these cracks and reach sub-grade and embankment level causing settlement. This will ultimately damage the pavement. Hence it is necessary that a methodology and guidelines for the repairs & rehabilitation of such cracks in PQC be developed. Normally the repair material should remain flexible enough to accommodate anticipated expansion & contraction, water-tightness etc.
