Overview:

Traditionally in India, manholes for providing access to telecommunication and sewer lines have been made from bricks. However, brick manholes are time-consuming to build and are not structurally strong. Recognizing these problems, KK developed and introduced the conical manhole assembly system. The conical manhole assembly system has now being overwhelmingly accepted by the telecom majors and is the predominant system used to provide access to underground telecom cables.

The conical manhole assembly system consists of conical rings (each of height 225 mm) made from precast reinforced concrete that can be stacked one on top of the other to construct a conical shaped manhole. In addition, a precast concrete frame and cover are also provided at the top.

This system allows the flexibility to customize the height of the manhole to suit the application. Based on the number of rings used, the height of the manhole can vary from 0.5 meters (3 rings) to 1.9 meters (15 rings). In telecom applications, conical manholes of height of 0.5 meter, 1 meter, 1.225 meter, and 1.45 meters are primarily used.

Specifications:

• Each ring is reinforced with 2 nos. 8 mm dia torr steel rings and 8 mm dia stirrups at 150 mm c/c/ along the periphery while the cover is double-reinforced with 8 mm dia tor steel at 100 mm c/c in the first plane and 8 mm dia tor steel at 50 mm c/c in the second plane.
• The cover also consists of a 2mm thick ms sheet at the outer periphery and 2 nos. 16 mm dia lifting hooks. Both the MS sheet and lifting hooks are hot dip galvanized to ensure long life
• All components are made from M-30 grade concrete using vibro compaction process

Fly ash is one of the naturally-occurring products from the coal combustion process and is a material that is nearly the same as volcanic ash.The most common use of fly ash is as a partial replacement for portland cement used in producing concrete. Fly ash concrete has increased strength and durability, which means it can handle greater loads, is more resilient and lasts longer. Fly ash concrete can withstand harsher service environments than straight portland cement concrete. Fly ash concrete costs less. Depending on what area of the country you are in, fly ash can be 20% to 60% less expensive than portland cement. In some cases, portland cement can be more than twice as expensive.  However, there have been few instances where fly ash was shipped long distances and sold for higher prices than local portland cement because the concrete durability requirements could only be met using fly ash.Fly ash has similar chemical composition to that of portland cement, shale and volcanic ash. Similarly to these materials, fly ash contains naturally occurring trace elements that are also found in rock and soils.
