Heat strengthened glass is similar to tempered glass except that the cooling is done at a much slower pace. Annealed glass is heated to approximately 650-700 C, but the cooling process is slower than that for tempered glass. Heat strengthened glass is about twice as strong as annealed glass of the same size and thickness. Heat strengthened glass is a semi tempered glass which retains the normal properties of ordinary float glass. Heat Strengthened glass has been strengthened thermally by inducing a surface compression of 6000 to 9000 psi as compared to a range of 11000 to 20000 psi in case of fully tempered glass. Heat strengthening adds strength to the glass while limiting the change in its breakage characteristics. The cooling process places the surfaces of the glass in a state of high compression and the central core in a state of compensating tension.
Design byNTSM InfoLaminated glass, regard as Safety glass, consist of two or more panes of glass with one or more layers of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) sandwiched between them and treated. The glass panes can be basic float glass or tempered or heat strengthened panel. If the glass is broken fragments tend to adhere to the PVB interlayer thereby reducing the risk of injury from falling glass and helping to resist further impact or weather damage. PVB membrane has good tenacity performance and when the laminated glass breaks due to violent force, the PVB will absorb large amount of impact energy and disperse it rapidly. Therefore, it hard to break the laminated glass and the shape of the glass may be maintained even if being broken. Furthermore, personnel inside and outside the buildings will not be hurt by the glass fragment.

Tempered glass is made from normal annealed glass via a thermal tempering process in which the glass is subjected to heat till its softening point and then rapidly cooled. This gives the glass its strength. A fully tempered glass is used in most modern glass facade, where glass strength is required. A fully tempered glass is recommended for windows that are on high floors or skylights where people are required to stand on top for cleaning. Also areas where risk of thermal breakage or impact breakage is high, fully tempered glass should be used so as to avoid risk of injury. Glass strength is also required in point fixed glazing, bolted and patch fittings.
Bend glass is normal glass curved by a special process. Bent or curved glass is a great alternative to the conservative rectangular design of buildings as it is available in a wide range of sizes, allowing the creation of unique and unconventional shapes. Bent glass enhances aesthetics of architectural structures.
