The high value of resin used in making PET bottle makes its recycling more practical than recycling of most other plastic types. Over the past few decades, scrap PET is available in abundance through post-consumer scrap in the form of water and carbonated soft drink bottling.
PET bottles can be recycled to make more PET bottles, but this is not mandated in India. The next best option is to make fiber/yarn from scrap PET which is then used to make various garments and products. This material is commonly known as Polyester.
