This Fault locater is used for detecting open and short faults in telecom/signal cables. When a faulty pair is connected to the tester, a LED indicates if the pair is open or short and the digital display will instantly give a reading of the distance to the fault (in meters).
The unit is very compact and consumes much less power. It can be used in the field for 3-4 days without charging the battery. Due to the direct digital readout, the measurement is very accurate. An in-built timer saves the battery by switching unit to a power-save mode. This makes it totally user friendly and any operator having minimal knowledge can successfully locate the fault. This machine is based on the principle of Time Domain Reflectometry.
FeaturesThe cable fault locator is a portable field instrument working on Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) principle, using advanced digital technology. It is designed to locate faults in any type of metallic cables, such as unloaded telecommunication or power, network or co-axial cables.
It sends a pulse of energy on the cable that propagates towards the far end. This pulse returns to the sending end from the point of mismatch of impedance. The transmitted and reflected pulses simultaneously interact with each other effectively displaying distance of fault in metres from sending end.
The velocity factor (VOP) is manually set for the type of cable selected. This machine can typically locate open and short circuit faults. It can also be used for other faults such as series and shunt, split pairs and ingress of moisture faults. It can also indicate locations of cable joints.
Low Insulation Faults can not be detected by normal TDR method but needs special technique. This machine is used for location of Low Insulation / Battery/ Earth faults. One good pair & one faulty pair are connected to the unit. The good pair is shorted at the far end. One leg of the faulty pair is connected to the good pair at far end. The unit indicates the distance of the good pair & the distance to the fault (in meters). Unit is chargeable battery operated.
FeaturesPairs are tested first on MDF Test board & then one of the good pair out of it is connected to the machine. It is looped at far end. Similarly faulty pair (of low insulation / Battery / Earth type fault) is connected to this machine. Its far end is looped to good pair at same far end spot. Good pair distance is entered into the machine. In Null made Null pot is set to get 0 reading on display. Then In DF X1 mode we get direct distance of fault in meters.
This is used to find out route of underground cable. Tone is fed from Signal Generator to one of pair. With the help of sensor signal is picked up & amplified in receiver. Signal Strength is indicated on scale as well as heard in headphone. We can also detect particular cable out of bunch of cables.

Operation
One of the pair of cable, whose route is to be found out, is tested on MDF test board. If it is OK then it is looped at far end and its loop resistance is measured. Then it is grounded with the rod provided. Preferably no exchange earthing is used. Similarly its other end is connected to generator. Impedance is selected as per above loop resistance. Receiver is moved across the ground to get maximum signal in head phone. Different sensors are used for different purposes.
Unmanned Exchanges / Proprieties can be monitored from central place by using IP cameras and internet. We can monitor different locations simultaneously.
FeaturesAt the Site under surveillance, suitable cameras are fixed. They are connected through switcher to modem. IP signal received at monitor location is automatically recorded independently. Signal can be viewed from any place on particular IP address.
When this module is fixed on Tagblock, the status of all 10 lines is immediately indicated. You can check the presence of exchange supply, reverse leg, loop, ring on line, spare line etc. OCB & Crone modules are available
FeaturesRemove earthing plate if any on tag blog. Fix the module on the tagblock. Press it gently to make proper contact. Observe which lamps are glowing & which are off. Lines on which lamps are glowing are working lines. If A if positive Red Lamp will glow. If B is positive then other lamp will glow. If line has got ring, then lamp will flicker. In speech mode lamp will be dim.
Low insulation / Battery / Earth faults can not be located easily. So the best way is to convert those faults into open or short faults. This machine generates short duration modulated high signal pulses which are applied continuously to faulty pair. This changes characteristics of pair & that pair becomes open or short, thus easily locatable There is also a provision to give one leg / both leg current.
FeaturesFaulty pair is tested on MDF Test board. If it has Battery/ Earth/ Low Insulation fault, then that pair is isolated from exchange side in MDF as well as subscriber side from pillar. Such pair is connected to A & B terminals. Similarly exchange earth is extended to machine. Select limb at which you want to apply signal. This signal is continuously applied to that leg / pair. Due to continuous bombardment of high power signal characteristics of that limb changes, converting that fault into open or short. We can also give one leg / both leg current.
Artificial load is used for testing Exchange battery, UPS, Invertors etc. It is available in different ratings. There is a provision to change current in step. Overload protection is also provided. Unit is portable with wheels. Necessary cables are provided to connect it to battery.
FeaturesConnect battery under test .Select load current. It should be 10% of AH of battery capacity. Switch on unit. Unit will indicate battery voltage as well as current. Monitor battery voltage continuously. If it falls below specified threshold value disconnect battery from load bank & note down timing.
