Details :Rohini Superlite, the foaming agent from Rohini  Foam, is used in making CLC blocks. Typically, the foam concentrate shall be of such chemical composition that is capable of producing stable foam cells in concrete, which can resist the physical and chemical forces imposed during mixing, transporting, pumping, placing and setting of concrete. The foam produced shall be stable for duration beyond the final setting time of Portland cements. Such foaming agents shall be completely harmless to concrete and embedded steel reinforcement and be non-toxic, non-flammable and biodegradable.

Protein Foam effects extinguishment in two ways. The foam blanket excludes oxygen from the fuel’s surface, and the water in the foam provides cooling.

Uses :Rohini Protein Foam Concentrate is used in fire suppression systems and manual applications to fight fires involving hydrocarbon fuels such as crude oil, gasoline, and fuel oils. It is not suitable for use on polar solvents or water miscible fuels such as alcohols, ketones, esters, and ethers. Typical storage tank systems include surface (topside) application. It is not suitable for subsurface application. Other uses include loading racks, docks, process areas marine tankers, spills, etc. For best performance protein foam concentrates should be used with aspirating.

Shelf Life :The shelf life of any foam concentrate is maximized by proper storage conditions and maintenance. Factors affecting shelf life are wide temperature changes, extreme high or low temperatures, evaporation, dilution, and contamination by foreign materials.Annual testing of all fire fighting foam is recommended by Bureau of Indian Standards. Rohini Fire Safety Pvt. Ltd. provides a Technical Service Program to conduct such tests.

Storage and Handling:Rohini Fluoroprotein Foam Concentrate is best stored in its original, unopened, factory supplied shipping container. The storage environment shall be within the temperature range of 32°F to 120°F (0°C to 49°C). Rohini FP may be stored in tanks constructed of mild steel, high density cross linked polyethylene, or reinforced fiberglass polyester (isophthalic polyester resin) with vinyl ester resin internal layer coating (50 – 100 mils). Mild steel piping and brass valves can be used.
Stainless steel storage tanks and piping should not be used with Rohini FP. Failure to follow recommended maintenance procedures may result in the deterioration of foam concentrate quality and its fire fighting effectiveness. Foam equipment may be clogged or damaged by improperly maintained foam concentrates.

Inspection and Testing :Rohini Fluoroprotein Foam Concentrate should be inspected and tested as part of the regular fire fighting system maintenance program at least once a year. Rohini Fire Safety Pvt. Ltd. offers a Technical Service Program to conduct such tests.

Aqueous Film Forming Foam Concentrate

  • AFFF Foam Concentrate is a superior quality and environmentally responsible aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) which is used at 1%, 3% or 6% concentration to extinguish fires in hydrocarbon fuels. AFFF foam concentrates are designed for rapid fire knockdown by producing a thin aqueous film which spreads across the surface of the fuel, separating the fuel from oxygen. This is accomplished by allowing the foam solution to quickly drain from the foam bubble, which in turn affects long term sealability and burnback resistance.
  • The aqueous film is produced by the fluorocarbon surfactant, reducing the surface tension of the foam solution to a point where the solution can be supported by the surface tension of the fuel. The effectiveness of the aqueous film is directly influenced by the surface tension of the fuel. The film tends to be more effective on fuels with higher surface tension, such as diesel and jet fuels, and less effective on fuels with lower surface tension such as hexane and gasoline.

 

Applications :

AFFF is used in fire suppression systems and manually to fight fires involving hydrocarbon fuels such as crude oil, gasoline, and fuel oils. It is not suitable for use on polar solvents or water miscible fuels such as alcohols, ketones, esters, and ethers. Typical installations include foam water sprinkler systems, aircraft hangars, loading racks, process areas, etc. AFFF 3% is an excellent agent for use in aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) or other manual fire fighting applications where polar solvent fuels are not encountered. It is also useful as a wetting agent in combating Class A fires.

AR-AFFF foam is used to extinguish hydrocarbon and polar-solvent (water-miscible) fires, fires from a mixture of these fuels, and oxygenated motor fuels. It is suitable for use with foam compatible dry powder extinguishing agents.
  • AR-AFFF concentrates with a special biosynthesized polymer. This polymer is designed to fulfill two functions. The first is to form a protective membrane between the fuel and the foam as it contacts the water miscible fuel, making extinguishment possible. The second function is to make the foam more stable and heat resistant, resulting in better burnback resistance and sealability compared to conventional AFFFs.
