These are usually used to hold a wood or metal workpiece and are often used on carpentry and welding. At the top is usually a small flat edge. At the bottom is a threaded hole through which a large threaded screw protrudes. It is used by turning the screw through the bottom of the frame until the desired state of pressure or release is reached.

These bushes come as sleeve and flanged type bushes. A solid sleeved bush is only a sleeve of material with O.D., I.D. and length. This type of bush is solid all the way around. A flanged bushing is a sleeve bushing with a flange at one end extending radially outward from the OD. The flange is used to positively locate the bushing when it is installed or to provide a thrust bearing surface.

Just like the sleeve bush, the split bush too is only a sleeve of material with outside diameter, inside diameter and length. However it differs from the sleeve bush in its construction type. While the sleeve bush is solid all the way around, the split bush (as the name suggests) has a cut along its length. It is even further similar to the split type bush because this type also has a long cut along its length.
