Thermocouple Cables

Thermocouple Cablesare the same as Instrumentation Cables. They both are used for process temperature measurement. The manufacturing process of these cables is similar to Ratansiris paired instrumentation cable with the difference being in the conductor material. Thermocouple Cables are used in a wide variety of processes to sense temperature. Thermocouple Cables are used to connect control surfaces to the pyrometers, enabling accurate temperature indication and control. The Thermocouple Cables can be purchased in bulk from us. We are counted amid the trusted Thermocouple Cable Suppliers in India.

Thermocouples and pyrometers are electrically conducted by the thermocouple extension/compensating cables. It is essential that the cabling uses the same conductive material as the thermocouple itself. This is to ensure similar thermo-electric (e.m.f) properties as that of the thermocouple used for sensing the temperature. If there is not a match in thermo-electric properties between the cable and the thermocoupling accurate temperature measurement will not be possible. That is why Ratansiri puts such stringent quality control measures into their design and manufacturing processes. Our thermocouple cables are manufactured using the following standards:- IS: 8784, ANSI-MC 96. 1, B.S., IEC, JIS, ENI, DIN .Thermocouple cables can also be manufactured according to customer specifications for custom applications if none of our stock cable meets the desired criteria.

Different thermocouple types, for the reasons above, require different types of alloy wire combinations. Some of the most popular thermocouple wire and cable types are listed below, but custom cables can be configured to fit the customers exact needs.

Type E (Chromel/Constantan)

Type J (Iron/Constantan)

Type K (Chromel/Alumel)

Type T (Copper/Constantan)

Thermocouple extension wire is used to extend the signal from a probe to the required instrumentation, such as controllers or recording devices. Multi pair thermocouple extension cables are preferred for these applications because their accuracy, stability in transmission integrity and the high build quality of thermocouple cables. Extension wires are designated by an X aft the ANSI thermocouple type, such as those listed below:

BX

EX

JX

KX

SX

TX

Connecting cables that allow communication between thermocouples and temperature sensors or other processing equipment are divided into two types of cable, compensating cables and extension cables. These can have a solid or stranded conductor; this will depend on the exact application and the required conductor material and the thermo-electric properties of the thermocouple that is being attached to the processing instruments. Extension cables are used for these critical conditions, and the conductors must be made of the same material as the thermocouple. This is to ensure that extension cables are operating within the same accuracy limits as the connected thermocouple. Extension cables are marked with an X behind the identification letter for the thermocouple, so a type K thermocouple would require a thermocouple extension wire marked KX, indicating a conductor material of (NiCr-Ni).

Below you will find information on our Shielded Instrumentation cables; feel free to contact us with any further technical or application questions.

CONDUCTOR

Annealed Bare/ uniform coated with Tinned/Silver Platted, High Conductivity, and Electrolytic Grade Solid/Stranded/Flexible Conductor. (Generally manufactured with conductor sizes 0.25/0.5/0.75/1.0/1.5/2.5/4.0 sq. mm, conforming to BS EN 50228, BS: 5308 (I & II), IEC-189 (I & II), VDE 0815.

DIELECTRIC

Conductor is insulated with 70/85/105oC. Grade General Purpose/HR PVC Compound/Solid/Cellular Polyethylene PP/PE, Halogen Free FRLS Polymeric Compounds like LSZH or any other dielectric material as per customers specification. The choice of insulation material to be used for any application is Dependant on :-

  • Conductor temperature
  • Electrical characteristics required
  • Compatibility
  • These are the most common types of extruded material used in the manufacture of Instrumentation cables.
COLOUR OF DIELECTRIC:-

Cores are identified with a different type of color scheme as per requirement as below:-

  • i) BS EN 50228, BS: 5308 I & II,
  • ii) As Per IEC, ITD or number Printing.
  • iii) As Per Customers Scheme.
Core/Pair Identification :-

Multi-Pair Cables :The cores within a pair are identified by one of the following methods :

  • By printing a reference code on one insulated conductor, or both of them, that indicates the number of that single pair.
  • By a numbered non hygroscopic tape applied over the pair.
  • By using different colour combinations to uniquely identify the pair.
PAIR/TRIAD/QUAD :-

In cables which make up a pair, triad or quad core wires are uniformly twisted together. Maximum lay length determined by customer needs and minimum crosstalk requirements is up to 80mm .

INDIVIDUAL SHIELDING :-

If required, Individual Shielding may be of Poly Aluminum [Thin Layer of Aluminum Foil bonded to Polyester Film] Tape with Annealed Tinned Copper Drain Wire. It prevents the shorting of adjacent shield and minimizes the cross talk and ground loops. A Tinned Copper drain Wire is installed to provide continuous contact with the shield and allow for connection to ground. Tinning the drain wire reduces galvanic corrosion between drain and shield.

LAYING OF PAIRS/TRIAD/QUAD.:-

Pairs/Triads/Quads are laid up with suitable lay. The outer most layers are right hand lay and successive layers are laid up with opposite lay. Then, a Melinex Tape is provided to bind up laid up Pair/Triad/Quad.

OVERALL SHIELDING :-

Overall shielded cable constructions are recommended for use in Instrumentation computer and control application where signals are transmitted in excess of 100 Mili volts except in areas where high voltage and current sources create excessive noise interference. If required, Overall l Shielding may be of Annealed Tinned Copper Braiding/Poly Aluminum [Thin Layer of Aluminum Foil bonded to Polyester Film] Tape with Annealed Tinned Copper Drain Wire. Braiding ATC Shield has high tensile Strength and provides better coverage in flexing application. They are easier to terminate. This provides effective shielding; cross talk and noise are kept to an absolute minimum.

INNER SHEATH :-

The laid up pair/triad/quad after shielding are provided with an inner sheath, which may be either Extruded Inner Sheath or wrap with PVC Tape.

ARMOURING :-

It is applied over inner Sheath. It may consist of galvanized Round Steel wires or galvanized Flat Steel Strips. Steel wire armoured cables are suitable for direct burial. One or more copper wires can be incorporated in the armour to increase the conductivity of the Armour where it is being used as an earth return.

OUTER SHEATH :-

It is applied over Armouring in case of Armoured Wire or over Inner Sheath in case of Unarmoured Cable. The Color of Sheath is Black, Grey or as per customers choice. The cable jacket is resistant to sunlight, moisture and vapour penetration. The Sheath material may be General Purpose PVC, FR / HR / FRLS PVC / Low Smoke Zero Halogen Compound as per requirement of the specification. The choice of sheathing materials to be used for any application is dependent on :

  • Temperature
  • Flexibility
  • Electrical characteristics
  • Smoke and acid gas emission limitations
  • Resistance to chemicals
  • Water resistance
  • Exposure to UV

RIP CORD :-

To simplify jacket removal, high tensile strength nylon Rip Cord is provided over laid up of pairs/triads/quads below the outer sheath in case of Unarmoured cable or below the Inner Sheath in case of armoured Cable.
