Radiotone AC Power Source is a tailor-made product used mainly for Testing High Voltage High Power Motors & Switch gears. A typical example would be Input 415V and Output variable from 0 – 690V @120A.Radiotone AC Power Source comprises of appropriately rated 3 phase motorized variable transformer with phasewise step-up transformers. It has a facility to increase/decrease simultaneously for all 3 phases or for individual phases. This is useful for equalizing phase voltage during testing. It has a single phasing preventer, MCCB, zero start, phase sequence error indicator, with a tower lamp.

Double wound Transformer is a device that transfers energy from one circuit to another by Magnetic coupling. Apart from its ability to easily convert between different levels of Voltage & current in AC circuits, transformer also provide very useful feature called Isolation. which is the ability to couple one circuit to another without the use of direct wire connection. A very useful application of this is that even if the secondary winding is imposed a high DC voltage (wrt ground) it has no effect on the primary side. This impressed voltage is often called "Common mode Voltage as it can be seen at more than one pt in the ckt with reference to common ground. This transformer Isolates the common-mode voltage so that it is not impressed on the primary ckt at all. For that matter this could be an AC voltage, even at a different frequency & transformer will isolate it from primary side.

Three Phase units are built by using such three stacks & motorizing them on common shaft. This is a substitute for oil cooled units which are less preferred, for safety reasons, in many hazardous applications. Single Phase High Current Air Cooled Variable Autotransformers (colloquially known as Variac) are very easy to maintain & service. Enclosed units are also available.
