Heat-strengthened glass is a semi-tempered glass which retains the normal properties of ordinary float glass. It is similar to tempered glass except that the cooling is done slower than toughened glass but faster than annealed glass.

The heat strengthening process is similar to that of toughened glass but with lower levels of surface compression, resulting from a lower cooling quench.

Heat Strengthened Glass has a mechanical strength of about twice that of annealed glass and if broken, breaks into large pieces from edge to edge and does not fracture into small fragments like toughened glass. This breakage characteristic allows the glass to remain in the window frame as the large pieces support each other in the opening.

Heat Strengthened Glass also has high thermal strength like toughened glass and is resistant to thermal stress breakage associated with high performance tinted, reflective, and/or Insulating Glass Units.

Heat Strengthened Glass also provides resistance to thermal breakage caused by heat build-up in spandrel situations and the probability of nickel sulfide inclusions inducing spontaneous breakages in heat strengthened glass is practically non-existent.

Heat Strengthened Glass is often used in laminated glass, as it allows better interlayer adhesion than toughened glass due to the flatter nature of the heat strengthened product. This flatter finish also results in less optical distortion in building faades. In addition it has excellent breakage characteristics and prevents fallout and collapse.

As a result of the reasons above, heat strengthened glass is often used in curtain wall faades of buildings, in both the vision and spandrel applications.

However, in some situations Heat Strengthened Glass is not suitable. For example; where safety glass is required in human impact safety situations, for mechanical fixing or for higher strength requirements. In these situations Toughened Safety Glass is recommended.

Patterned glass is flat glass whose surfaces display a regular pattern. The most common method for producing patterned glass is to pass heated glass (usually just after it exits the furnace where it is made) between rollers whose surfaces contain the negative relief of the desired pattern(s).

Pattern glass offers privacy as well as style throughout the home. It allows maximum light into internal rooms while maintaining the chosen level of privacy through an attractive decorative pattern.

Fabric laminates give you the opportunity to capture a variety of rich fabrics between protective glass layers. Using regular woven cloth, delicately constructed textiles or printed fabrics combines the beauty, colour & texture of the fabric with the structural strength & practicality of glass you can capture the colour & texture of the fabric with the strength & simplicity of glass.

We can provide large structural glass panels up to 2140 mm x 3350 mm, depending on the fabric.

Applications

• Fabric laminated glassis used to create a dramatic feature in interior applications such as partitions, screens, doors, and furniture. When combined with either a back-painted glass or mirrored glass, the overall effect is stunning and is an inspired solution for wall cladding, or other cladding applications.
• Handling and Installation -Since the fabrics and mesh are encapsulated inside the laminated glass, the glass can be handled and installed in the same way as standard laminated glass. The range is tested for use in interior applications. For humid environments, such as bathrooms, please discuss your requirements with us. Some products in the range are suitable for humid environments.

Processing and edge-work -Depending on the substrate, the glass can also be heat-strengthened, or toughened. The edges of the glass are finished after lamination, except in the case of toughened laminated configurations.

Quality specifications

Due to the nature of the encapsulated products, it is important to note the following points:

• Depending on the fabric, variations may occur within the pattern itself.
• Partly as a result of this, alignment of the pattern with the edge of the glass may vary slightly.
• Fabrics may have small imperfections within them.
• Due to the texture of the fabrics, small bubbles may be visible within the interlayers.

These points are not cause for rejection of the fabric Laminated product.

An Insulating glass unit is the most effective way to reduce air-to-air thermal transfer through the glazing. When used in conjunction with low emissivity andor reflective glass coatings, IGU's become effective means to conserve energy. An insulating glass unit commonly consists of two (sometimes more) panes of glass separated by a spacer material and sealed together at the edge. The insulating airspace is filled with air or a noble gas, such as argon inside. Each glass pane has two surfaces, so typical double-paned IGUs have four surfaces. Using argon in the air space between the two panes of glass provides further insulation, as these gases are denser than air and less likely to let heat conduct through the IGU. Combined with a low-e glass coating, these gases work to improve the window's overall u-value, which is a measure of the heat transmission through a building part (such as a wall or window). The lower the u-value, the better the insulating glass unit.
