Its history reveals that it is derived from the city bergamo in lombardy where the oil was first sold. The oil is found in the ivory coast, morocco, tunisia, argentina, brazil and algeria, where the soil and climatic conditions are very favourable for its cultivation.it is a cross between pear lemon and seville orange or grapefruit. Citrus bergamia has also been classified as a subspecies of bitter orange.
