Red gram is mainly consumed in the form of split pulse as dal, which is an essential supplement of cereal-based diet. Tur dal is one of the major pulses consumed in India. Major states grow tur are Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Gulbarga is considered as tur bowl or togari kanaja. Tangible quantity of tur also being grown in districts such as Raichur & Yadgir besides other parts of the Karnataka. Tur sowing will be done in June/ July and harvested in the month of December / January. Factors influence tur prices are: weather progress, hoarding, MSP by the Govt., crop situation in the exporting countries especially Myanmar & Australia and prices of the other major competitive pulses. Major tur trading centres in India are Kalburgi in Karnataka and Akola, Jalgaon, Latur in Maharashtra.
