Water Softening is a simple process of ion-exchange. In this process Calcium & Magnesium ions are exchanged by Sodium ions. Thus, Hardness forming agents are converted in to soluble Sodium salts. Softening is carried out by simple filtration through the exchange material.
When the exchange material is exhausted it requires re-generation with Sodium Chloride. The output of softner will vary according to changes in inlet water quality.
