Contact SupplierViton O-Rings (FKM) have excellent resistance to may fluids, and are suitable for use where high temperature resistance is required. Fluorocarbon o-rings can provide outstanding resistance to many chemicals including hydraulic fluids, mineral oil, organic solvents, oxygen and more. Viton o-rings have excellent compression set resistance.
The designation Viton, FKM and FPM actually all refer to fluoro rubber as the single base material. FKM is the abbreviation for Fluoroelastomer as according to ASTM D1418. The DIN/ISO 1629 standard designated FPM as the abbreviation. The trademark name Viton, is a product of Dupont Elastomers. FKMs, or fluoroelastomers was the product of Dupont originally. Today, companies that manufacture FKMs include Solvay Specialty Polymers, Daikin Chemical, HaloPolymer and 3M.
Fluoroelastomers (FKM)
A category of synthetic rubber, designated as FKM or fluoroelastomers, are commonly used in the manufacture of o-rings because of their outstanding resistance to a broad range of chemicals and fuel under high thermal conditions. FKMs can withstand temperature in excess of 200 degrees centigrade, while providing a useful service life.
Fluoroelastomers (FKM) are used in the making of o-rings and seals, and they can be found in industrial applications which include the following:
Automotive Industry: Shaft Seals, hoses for fuel, o-rings for fuel injectors, valve stem seals, gaskets, check valves.
Aerospace Industry: Clips used in jet engines, tire valve stem seals, o-ring as sealing application in hydraulic systems, firewall seals.
Industrial applications: Check valve balls, electrical connectors, o-ring seals in hydraulic systems, gaskets.
