Vescadril-dx (cetirizine hydrochloride, phenylephrine hydrochloride, dextromethorphan hydrobromide with menthol syrup) is a strawberry flavoured syrup which consist of cetirizine hydrochloride 2.5mg, phenylephrine hydrochloride 5mg, dextromethorphan hydrobromide 10mg and menthol 2.5mg per 5 ml. It acts as a powerful vasoconstrictor. Cetirizine is used in allergic rhinitis and other allergic disorders. Cetirizine is a non-selective anti-histamine. Dextromethorphan is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor and acts as an anti-tussive agent and phenylephrine is a nasal decongestant and also is used in the treatment of hypotension and shock as a cardiotonic agent during spinal anesthesia. Dextromethorphan is indicated to relieve coughs due to colds or influenza (flu). Dextromethorphan is a non-selective nasal decongestant and it produces longer duration of action.
Recommended dose:
for children of 6 months to 2 years of age: 5 ml once daily.
For children of 12 months and older may be increased to 5 ml twice daily.
For children of 2-5 years: 5 ml orally once a day may be increased to 10 ml/ day in 1 to 2 divided doses.
For children of 6 years or older: 10 ml-20 ml/day in 2 divided dose.
