Veress Needle is used to create a pneumoperitoneum in laparoscopic procedures. It incorporates a retracting spring loaded blunt stylet and sharp hollow bore needle. It is used to establish pneumoperitoneum prior to trocar and cannula insertion in laparoscopic procedures.There are disposable and nondisposable types of Veress needle. The Veress is a long needle with a blunt hollow spring-loaded trocar in its center.The needle should be inserted perpendicularly to the skin, usually at either the umbilicus or Palmer's point (subcostal at the midclavicular line).Veress needle: This is a hollow needle approximately 2mm in diameter and 15–18cm long that has a tap at one end for attachment of a gas pipe and a spring loaded obturator at the needle tip that when pressed against a firm surface exposes the sharp needle tip.
