Valerian (Valeriana officinalis)has been use as a sedative, antiseptic, anticonvulsant from prolong time to helps to treat conditions like chronic pain, convulsions, insomnia, migraines and anxiety. The main active component in Valerian is volatile oil – Valerenic acid which help increases the level of GABA (Gamma aminobutyric acid) in brain which regulates nerve cells and calm anxiety. Valerian also contains various other components like alkaloids, flavanones, Isovaleramide, Isovaleric acid etc.
