Contact Suppliercoir rope
ropes and cordages have been made from coconut fibre since ancient times. indian navigators
who sailed the seas, used coir for their ship ropes centuries ago. arab writers had referred the
extensive use of coir ropes for ship ropes and rigging in 11th century ad.
making of coir rope:
coir rope is traditionally made from white coir, obtained from the husks of coconuts. the white coir
is softer than brown coir and is ideal for spinning into yarn, which in turn, can be woven into mats or
twisted into twine or rope known as coir rope.
the coir fibre is elastic enough to twist without breaking and it holds a curl as though
permanently waved. twisting is done by simply making a rope of the hank of fibre and twisting it
using a machine or by hand.
spinning techniques vary from simple hand-spinning to use of a hand-operated spinning wheel or a
fully automated spinning machine.
