Most of the turmeric powders available in the market are adulterated by adding fillers like saw dust, rice flour, chalk powder or starch. In some cases, synthetic colour dyes like Metanil yellow and lead chromate are used to make it bright and yellow along with fillers. Consuming turmeric powder along with such ingredients may have negative impact on health.
