Contact SupplierTMT (Thermo Mechanically Treated) bars or Re‐bars (Reinforcement bars) are high strength steel bars with a circular cross section and transverse ribs on the outer surface. The major application of TMT bars is in Reinforced Concrete Cement (RCC) work to provide structural support to buildings, bridges, flyovers, dams etc.
TMT bars are available in the market in sizes ranging from 8mm‐ 80mm in Diameter. The most common ones are 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm, 25mm, 28mm, and 32mm and are readily available at OfBusiness.com
Special Properties of TMT Bars
TMT bars are processed and treated accordingly to be made suitable for use with RCC in construction.
● Strength and Ductility ‐ TMT bars are highly ductile in the core thus resisting failure on even 180 degrees of bending. The bars are thermally heated and quenched to increase the tensile strength to withstand large stresses that any structure may undergo.
● Chemical Bonding with Concrete Cement ‐ TMT bars are chemically and thermally treated to bond well with the concrete cement mixture used in construction.
● Thermal Properties ‐ TMT and Concrete cement have similar coefficients of thermal expansion this using them together ensures that no stress concentration voids will be formed inside the structure that might lead to failure.
Different grades of TMT bars available
TMT bars come in different grades, each with specific properties and applications. The different grades available in the market are Fe 450 (construction of domestic building), Fe 500 (Construction of high rise buildings corporate towers), Fe 500D (Construction of high rise buildings in earthquake prone areas), Fe 600 (Construction of large structures such as bridge, dam, and flyovers) each of them have different tensile strengths, ductility and have specific applications accordingly.
