Bamboo is a Symbol of century's old civilization of mankind being a part of daily life style in almost all occasion. India is number one country in world with largest Bamboo forests (8.98 million ha). It is used in several industries like paper, housing, cottage, handicrafts and in modern time as wood substitutes for practical board, furniture & recently as floor tiles, mats etc.
Tissue culture is a technique to produce large quantities of plants in very short period of time. Plants from tissues are grown under controlled environmental conditions. Starting from only a few nodal pieces, within a period of 4-8 months thousands of new plants can be produced. These plants are multiplied every 3-5 weeks. This is an excellent method of propagate new introductions or new selections very rapidly. The following species are being produced at our lab:
