Tin is a soft, malleable, ductile, highly crystalline silvery-white metal. When the tin rod is bent, a crackling sound is heard from the twin crystals known as the "tin screech". Tin melts at a low temperature of about 232 °C (450 °F), the lowest in group 14. However, simple eutectic systems occur with bismuth, gallium, lead, thallium, and zinc.
