Soluble in acetone, alcohol, and dilute aqueous alkali. Sparingly soluble in water.
Thymolphthalein complexone is a offwhite powder that is dissolved into a clear, colorless liquid when added to isopropyl alcohol. A metal indicator, it turns a brilliant blue-magenta color when it comes in contact with basic solutions like sodium hydroxide or ammonia hydroxide, and returns to clear when an acid is introduced to the solution, balancing out the pH.
Applications:
The reagent will form colored metal complexes in alkali media. It is used for determination of Calcium and MagnesiumIt is a Complexometry indicator, for determination of Ca, Sr and Ba. Acidic form retains hydrogen on each hydroxyl group.
