Teflon Adhesive Tape

Pull tape off the roll and place the its end on the male pipe thread. Wrap 3-5 layers of tape tightly in a clockwise direction around the thread. Cut the end with scissors. Apply a thin coat of pipe-joint compound to the female threads in the fitting and screw the pipe into the fitting.
