In Submerged Arc Welding a continuous solid wire, in the form of a spool is used as electrode. It is mechanically fed resulting in high deposition rates. The arc is submerged under a layer of dry granular flux. The higher feed enables the use of higher currents. This is one of the most economical processes for long joints and deep groove butt welds.
