Backhaus Towel Clamp is used for fixing drapes to the skin of anesthetized patients. The instrument is a scissor action with ratchet fixation at the finger loops and a sharp, incurving, needle-like blade.

There are a number of ways in which a towel clamp can be positioned. The clamp may connect two towels, or clip tp a frame,  and in the case of the Backhaus towel clamp, it can also clamp directly to the patients skin. In this case, the design is intended to allow the clamp to clip without occluding or pinching, to prevent complications during surgery and pain during surgical recovery.
