Squalene squalene is a structurally unique triterpene compound that is one of the main components (about 13%) of skin surface lipids. It was so named because it was first isolated from shark (squalus spp.) liver oil, which contains large quantities and is considered its richest source. majorly found in shark liver & plant sources like olive oil, rice bran oil, palm oil & amaranth seed oil squalene is produced by the human body , where it is used to synthesise hormones, cholesterol & vitamin squalene is used widely as a cosmetic ingredient for its anti ageing properties due to its skin moisturising & skin smoothening effects squalene is reported to have effects on cancer & its antioxidant supplements
