The world over, historically, spine surgeries have been carried out by neurosurgeons or orthopaedic surgeons, depending on the exact nature of the spine procedure. The faculty of spine surgery came about far later, with the increasing number and sophistication of spine surgeries which called for this distinct specialisation.
