A solar water heater consists of a collector to collect solar energy and an insulated storage tank to store hot water.
The solar energy incident on the absorber panel coated with selected coating transfers the heat to the riser pipes underneath the absorber panel. The water passing through the risers gets heated up and is delivered to the storage tank. The re-circulation of the same water through the absorber panel in the collector raises the temperature to 800C (Maximum) on a good sunny day. The total system with solar collector, storage tank and pipelines is called a solar hot water system.
These systems use the Sun to heat either water or a heat-transfer fluid, such as a water-glycol antifreeze mixture, in collectors generally mounted on a roof.
The heated water is then stored in a tank similar to a conventional gas or electric water tank. Some systems use an electric pump to circulate the fluid through the collectors.
Can operate mainly in Sunny climate.
Solar Water Heaters of 100 lpd(litres per day) to 500 litres capacity are suited for domestic use and 1,000 to about 30,000 litres in Industrial use.
They provide per day at 60-70 degree C temperature of hot water and the Normal temperature of hot water requirement in homes is between 35-40C.
