Star-Delta starter is the most commonly used method for the starting of a 3 phase industion motor . In star delta starting an induction motor is connected through a star connection throghout the starting peiod than once the motor reaches the required speed the motor shifted to Delta connection.

Soft starter is a solid state device that protects motor from damage coused by sudden influxes of power by limiting the large initial inrush of currentassociated with motor startup. It provides a gentle ramp up to full speed and used only at startup.
