Seedlac is semi-refined product obtained by removing the sticks and stones as well as the other impurities to the maximum possible extent by crushing, sieving and winnowing and washing out the dye with water. The Seedlac has a general appearance in the form of grain of size 10 mesh or smaller, and is yellow or reddish brown in color. This depends on the host tree and the district from which the Seedlac has been collected. Adhering impurities on these grains of Seedlac amount to 3-8 percent, averaging 5%.
