built with the help of sintering process samarium cobalt (smco) exists in two different forms. The first is sm1co5 (smco 1:5) and which has a higer energy product of between 18 and 22 mgoe. The second and the most common one is sm2co17 (smco 2:17) and it has an optimum energy product of between 22 and 30 mgoe. The most importantly, smco is equipped with alloy is around 35% samarium (sm) and 60% cobalt (co) with the balance being from varying amounts of iron (fe), copper (cu), hafnium (hf) and zirconium (zr). Praseodymium (pr) may also be used.
also known as smco, rare earth cobalt,  samarium cobalt magnets are not as strong as the neodymium (ndfeb) magnets. However, smco magnets have three significant advantages. These magnets can work on higher temperature and provide excellent temperature coefficients with much greater corrosion resistance.
samarium cobalt magnets have high resistance and  these magnets are very useful at higher temperature range. Apart from that, a few neodymium magnet grades can resist up to 220 degrees c.
the smco magnets outperformed the ndfeb magnets from 150 to 180 degrees c. In addition, samarium cobalt magnets are ideal for very low temperature applications (smco can be used down to a few kelvin above absolute zero) making them a first choice magnet for cryogenic applications.
they can also be used in very high temperatures - up to +250 deg c or +300/+350 degrees c depending on the grade; the smco26 is rated to +300 degreec c). Samarium cobalt (smco) magnets can contain less free iron as compared to neodymium magnets.
if you accumulate these features of samarium cobalt magnets, thus makes it very useful for many applications such as pump couplings, sensors, loudspeakers, generators, to make guitar pick-ups, different type of motors, sump plugs, various high temperature applications, and wide temperature applications. Samarium magnets are also useful in corrosive environments, marine applications, and automotive, aerospace and military applications.
    types of smcomagnets :–
    •    smco disc magnets
    •    smco discs with central holes
    •    smco rectangular magnets
    •    precision smco magnets
