Utilization of the reversal of the natural ‘ Osmosis ’ phenomenon forms the basis of Reverse Osmosis, wherein force is applied to reverse the direction of flow of the water through the semi – permeable membrane. This reversed flow produces pure water from brackish as well as seawater feeds.
When a semi permeable membrane separates two aqueous solutions of different concentrations, water permeates naturally from the dilute solution to the concentrated solution. This process is called “Osmosis”.

Reverse Osmosis Membranes: Four basic types of RO module designs are in commercial use:
1. Tubular
2. Plate and Frame
3. Spiral Wound Element
4. Hollow Fiber Modules
