A refractory material is one that retains its strength at high temperature. They are non-metallic materials having those chemical & physical properties that make them applicable for structures, or as components of systems that are exposed to environments above 1000 degree f(538 degree c).
The oxide of aluminum, silicon and magnesium are the most important material used in refractories.
There are mainly 3 types of refractories-
1) acidic refractories
2) basic refractories
3) neutral refractories
