Peanut is also known as goober, pinder, groundnut, earthnut and ground pea. Groundnut oil is natural sweet and flavoured edible oil. Refined Groundnut oil has a light yellow color and a neutral taste. This is extracted from pressing groundnut kernels. In addition to extracting the oil, groundnuts are eaten raw or roasted, and used in cooking and bakery as well. Groundnut oil is very high on energy, has a very high burning and smoking point, and contains monounsaturated fats, Vitamins A, D and E.
Physical Characteristics of Peanut Oil
Cold pressed peanut oil has deep yellow color with pleasant nutty aroma and sweet taste. Refined oil has light yellow and has the neutral taste. However, refining makes it virtually devoid of impurities and allergens. Its specific gravity @ 25 °C is 912-0.920, Iodine value-84–100, and saponification value-185–195.

  • Heart Health : Peanut oil is very high in calories because of the fatty acid content. But, this oil is rich in mono-unsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) that lower “bad cholesterol” and increase “good cholesterol” in the blood. This helps to prevent coronary artery disease and heart attacks by maintaining a healthy blood lipid profile. This is the most popular peanut oil benefit of all.
  • Blood Flow : Peanut oil contains linoleic acid that is a precursor of prostaglandins. Prostaglandin is required to carry out many important functions in the body such as the contraction and dilation of blood vessels and other muscles of the body.

  • Wipe your lips with cotton moistened with warm water until smooth.

In old days, our ancestors used wooden chekku to produce oils. The body and the hand of the wooden chekku is made from Siris tree wood. When the seeds (coconut, sesame, and groundnut) get cold pressed , they retain the natural nutrients.
Using wooden chekku for making oil reduces the heat. But the iron chekku and modern machines increases the heat heavily. So it destroys large amount of nutrients in the oil.
