Proguanil hydrochloride

Proguanil (also known as chlorguanide and chloroguanide) is a prophylactic antimalarial drug. It was the first antifolate antimalarial drug ever developed, with initial reports of its efficacy dating back to 1945. Currently it remains effective for prevention of infection from Plasmodium falciparum malaria, as well as treatment in someone who has already become infected by the parasite.
