A specific volume of selected coir pith blended with adequate quantity of short fiber in a compressed form is packed loosely in a UV stabilized Black and White Polythene bag. At user end suitable holes for drainage as well as planting holes are to be cut by the user and the compressed coir pith is expanded by addition of water to it. The coir pith expands fully inside the bag and maintains a rectangular shape for Grow Bag.
Plants are grown on the grow bag by regular fertigation. These growbags are mainly used to raise the tree crops or perennial crops.
Different grades are used for different crops and different uses. For example, 6mm sieving is for seedlings and nurseries using small pots and trays with additional additives. To ensure that the air / water ratio is kept at its optimum parameters for a long period of time. 13mm double sieving and 20 mm double sieving are mainly used for long-term crops such as roses and gerberas. 20mm with chips and double sieved is the best material for long term use in regards to air content, water holding capacity and substrate stability.
13mm double sieved has an air content of 24 – 28% in its full water holding capacity whereas 20mm sieved mixed with chips has an air content of 37% at its full water holding capacity.
