Contact SupplierMoisture the Foe of packed materials
A packed container (size may vary from tiny to very large) is a closed system having unique climate inside. It differs from a store or a warehouse in variable temperatures, usually much greater. It’s temperature ranges from subzero to over 50° Celsius during the transit.
The main fact is that warm air can hold more moisture than cold air. That means if warm air is cooled, it becomes more humid i.e. humidity increases. If it is cooled enough (by environment/climate or artificially), part of the moisture condenses and this is known as “Container Rain”. That is the same phenomenon that causes dew in the grass blade or fog on a cool day.
This is enough to cause problems. At other times it condenses on the cargo, on the inside of the pallet wrap, also known as “Cargo Sweat”, which is usually even more damaging.
Even without any condensation, elevated humidity over a period of time is sufficient to cause damage. Many metals will corrode or discolor at a rather modest level of humidity of 60% to 70%. At higher levels of humidity, above 80% molds can grow, labels peel and corrugated boxes start to soften.
It is important to realize that the humidity of the air changes only as a result of the change in temperature.
In a container warm dry air can absorb a lot of moisture. Warm moist air from the outside can also enter into the container through “Container Breathing”. When the container cools down, the risk for moisture damage increases.
But It is also risky when different parts of a container are at different temperatures. When warm air moves into a colder part it becomes humid and perhaps even condenses moisture. Tons of moisture can be redistributed within a container during a transit. Strange patterns of damage may arise, such as mold only in certain parts of the cargo.
Packed Desiccants
Desiccants prevents these moisture related problems before they begin, Packed Desiccants creates a protective shield of dry air within any enclosed storage area.
These desiccants bags are simply flexible "containers" of different adsorbents. The sachet is heat-sealed or stitched. It is made form non-woven cloth, cotton fabric cloth, Tyvek. The water molecules can pass through the material and be adsorbed by desiccants. We produce a range of standard size sachets. These Desiccants include (Clay, Activated Carbon, Zeolite, Molecular Sieve, Silica Gel Non Indicating/Indicating ) In the last case, the colours of the gels are visible through the sachets non- woven cloth or cotton fabric clot. Self-indicating silica gel size chosen. Or in case where an item is frequently inspected and the sachet can be replaced if it has become saturated and change colour. An active self indicating silica gel sachet give a clear sign that an item is safe from potentially expensive corrosion or stock sachets are as follow.
