tea leaf grading is the evaluation process on quality of the tea leaves and their condition. The high grade tea are called pekoe leaf, also spelled pecco. The low grade is called "fannings" and "dust". The grading scheme also contains categories higher than orange pekoe also known as "op", which are determined primarily by leaf wholeness and size. When the tea leaves are crushed to make bagged teas, the tea is referred to as "broken". Hence the name broken orange pekoe tea (bop).
